The hornbeam bower, also known as a berceau or cradle, is a characteristic element of park architecture. It is a type of alley that delights with its charm and mystical atmosphere. It consists of closely planted hornbeam trees whose crowns intertwine with each other, creating a unique tunnel.
In Kołobrzeg, on Towarowa Street leading to the port, one can walk through a historic hornbeam bower that was established in the mid-19th century. After 1945, this bower was forgotten for many years. However, this unique piece of garden art, also an underrated attraction of Kołobrzeg, has recently been granted the status of a nature monument. In recent years, it has undergone thorough renovation, regaining its former pre-war glory.
Today, hornbeam bowers in Polish parks are a rarity, which makes the one in Kołobrzeg even more exceptional.
